With
a reputation for high quality reporting Rio Tinto is always keen
to ensure it stays ahead of its peers and leads reporting best practice.
Working closely with the client, Sd3 developed a programme of projects
to benchmark Rio Tinto's reporting at both Group and national
levels.
A core part of the programme was a specially tailored version
of Sd3's Report Benchmarking Tool. This was used to compare
the quality, materiality, credibility, robustness and transparency
of Rio Tinto's reporting with others in the sector. The Reporting
and Benchmarking Tool is very flexible so it was also used in an
analysis of how close Rio Tinto was to being in accordance
with the GRI reporting requirements. Further elements of the programme
included developing a set of additional sector-specific reporting
indicators and the preparation of an internal best practice guide
for local reporting."
