CO2 at Sd3 - our own story since 2003
Sd3 has cut its business-related CO2 emissions by 14% since 2003.
Where would business sustainability advisors like Sd3 be if we didn't walk the same carbon talk as we advise our clients? Sd3 record our emissions
from office energy and transport sources (rail, air and car). Office energy data are derived from electricity and gas bills with nearly 100% of
our electricity coming from renewable sources. Our transport data are estimated from expenses records and by using an online route planner. To
offset our emissions we pay Climate Care Ltd a levy proportional to our carbon footprint. Climate Care invest this money in energy efficiency
and afforestation projects, usually in developing countries
While we have cut our overall emissions since 2003, we saw increased emissions in 2004 due to a greater number of employees travelling on
business. As transport is a key factor in CO2 emissions we endeavour to minimise business travel. We work with a host of international clients
and the majority of the work is done using email, telephone and online meeting services. Due to our increasing workload in Asia our air travel
has increased from 15 hrs travel in 2003 to 28 hours in 2005. We try to avoid air travel, however attendance in person, for example with our
reassurance projects, is not always avoidable.
