James Anderson, Director of Climate Change at Sd3 Ltd is to chair the UK Government's Policy Alternatives & Auctioning Working Group of the Defra/DTI UK Emissions Trading Group. The Working Group's duty is to help forge new legislation resulting from Defra's recently published 'Consultation on Measures to Reduce Carbon Emissions in Large, Non-energy Intensive Business and Public Sectors.'

James Anderson said: "Sd3 are really looking forward to adding our expertise to facilitate this unique opportunity for Government and industry to make real the win-wins on offer through efficient carbonemissions trading."

Launched by David Miliband, the Secretary of State for Environment, on the 20th of November the consultation's proposals include requiring 5,000 large* UK organisations in sectors, such as education, retail, finance, catering and health care as well as councils and government agencies to identify, monitor, report and manage reductions in their carbon emissions through energy management.

*Those using more than 3,000 MWh/year or with an energy bill of over £250,000 pa.
