So
that's Sustainability!
So what is it?
We all have an impact on and are affected
by sustainability. To become more sustainable we must treat the
world and humanity as if we intend to stay to live successfully
in the present without compromising our ability to do so in the
future. Sustainability is therefore, our capacity for continuance
in the long term.
Many of our current actions are unsustainable. Many of our decisions
lead to the degradation of our environment, which we rely on to
provide our needs, and to strains within our social fabric. Inequalities
are growing on a global basis and social wellbeing issues, such
as adequate food, basic health needs and liveable incomes are not
being met for millions of people. Economies are developing but often
at the expense of the environment or social wellbeing.
Sustainable development is a common sense way of balancing our social,
environmental and economic needs and wants in a global context.
It is the process by which we move towards sustainability. Like
justice sustainable development is something that everyone can
buy into, aspire to and help to evolve with time.

The challenge
of sustainability is to ensure that our economic activity does not
threaten our social wellbeing or our environmental foundation. We
are currently eating into our environmental resources and pressurising
our social structures without developing and improving them at the
same or greater rate. We are consuming faster than we are replenishing.
Sd3 is part of a community that is working to reverse this situation.
Our focus on business sustainability helps to translate these global
challenges into everyday reality for organisations. Our aim is to
support improved performance in organisations that is integrated
and creates value. Sustainability for Sd3, is about creating positive,
successful futures.
